In 1936 The Blue Lotus was published as a 124 page black and white edition. The fifth episode of the The Adventures of Tintin is widely considered a true masterpiece. The the story of The Blue Lotus was inspired when Hergé met Chang Chong-chen an young Chinese artist that had come to Belgium to study painting and sculpture. That friendship is present in every frame and speech bubble of this graphic novel long before the term existed.
