I’ve been sitting right here on this shelf at the Sausalito Ferry Co. for what feels like weeks, nestled between a row of crisp new Sausalito Humming Toadfish hats. Which I think is kinda of weird. Every morning, the sun streams through the front window, the shop door jingles open, and my hopes go up.

I watch the crowds drift in—day-trippers stepping off the ferry, locals looking for a breeze, and tourists blinking in the California sun. I’ve seen hundreds of eyes pass right over me.
